Circle II: Identical Illusion
'Circle II: Identical Illusions' series consists of images that reinterpret, from the artist's subjective point of view, the characters in traditional didactic Korean fairy tales and legends. From the traditional Eastern perspective of cyclical reasoning, the artist shows the negative emotions of her childhood (rage, anxiety, jealousy, inferiority, guilt, etc.) as they apply within a constant cycle of incompatible negative emotions throughout the growth process and even after entering adulthood. By interpreting the negative emotions of her childhood as self-portraits, and as coexisting rather than conflicting emotions, Kim's Circle II series is a form of self-healing.
